What is "Classic" in The Words of Warren Platner

“A classic is something you look at often and always accept it as it is.  You can see no way of improving it.”

Warren Platner’s ability to simply and perfectly define what is classic has no doubt contributed to his designs maintaining icon status in the years since their creation.  His iconic dining table has remained a staple in both formal and casual settings for decades with its simple but elegant design that adapts well into any setting.

Our Platner Round Dining Table Reproduction has been made to the same specification as the original design.  Instead of the mild steel and nickel plating, which was the best option Platner had at the time, we have made our base of stainless steel which is a much more durable option that has only become as readily available in the decades since.

Finn Juhl's Signature "Carrying Element"

In 1945, Finn Juhl created his signature method called the “Carrying Element” which involved freeing the seat and back from the chair’s frame.  After much experimenting, Juhl succeeded not only in this new carrying element, but also in his iconic Chair 45.

Our Chair 45 Reproduction honors the original design Finn Juhl created in 1945 and is handcrafted with solid hardwood.  With a memory foam cushion and many color options in either fabric or leather to choose, this chair is the perfect addition to any room!

Arne Jacobsen's Original Idea for His Egg Chair

It is hard to imagine Arne Jacobsen’s classic Egg Chair coming in a sofa version, but that is exactly what the Scandinavian designer originally intended to do.  After several botched Egg Sofas and even more design flaws that could not be fixed, Jacobsen decided to do away with the entire idea of an Egg Sofa, and instead to focus on perfecting what has become his now highly regarded Egg Chair and Ottoman.

Our Egg Chair and Ottoman reproduction follows all the same specifications Arne Jacobsen originally intended.  We have added a little extra cushioning for ultimate comfort and we offer our version in several of our exclusive boucle fabric color options.

Our Exclusive Modern Classics Stainless Steel Bench... and Beyond!

Our exclusive Modern Classics Stainless Steel Bench is designed in an art deco style and is a product we are proud to offer.  Not only is it visually unimposing and lightweight, it is also multi-functional and designed with the durability to withstand everyday use.

Its minimalist design makes it a great seating option for a narrow hall, mudroom or a place for guests to sit while entertaining.  It is not limited to just seating: this durable bench makes a great coffee table option, and is even the preferred function for some due to its clean lines and minimalist influence it has on the entire room.  Thanks to the nature of the #304 polished stainless steel rectangular tubing, there is never a need to worry about damaging the surface.  This means you can kick your feet up or place your coffee mug down while reading your morning paper, without the nagging thought you should be using a coaster (of course you will still want to use them,  if only for decoration).

William Morris' Words of Wisdom for Future Designers

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”  William Morris

I have always considered these words to be the simplest set of instructions in interior design, rather than just another famous quote often seen on a needlepoint pillow (though I do have it on a needlepoint pillow on my couch).  I can only assume Poul Kjaerholm, 20th century minimalist designer, was also a fan of William Morris.  Kjaerholm’s designs bring an unexpected serenity to the room with their perfect balance of form and function, nothing more, nothing less.

Our PK22 Lounge Chair Reproduction honors the original design Kjaerholm created and that launched him to fame in the design world.  Its low seat height and minimal design have an astonishing impact of sophistication when included in any room of the house.  It possesses an ageless beauty and level of comfort that will forever remain a classic.
